Your Website’S Traffic

Any Webmaster would wish to receive tons of traffic for his site. Unless your website attracts a significant number of visitors, it may not serve its real purpose. You need to convert those wishes into reality for which you may have to work hard and smartly. You need to understand the various channels that can help you to fetch traffic for your website. Some of the traffic-driver factors are discussed hereunder:

Bookmarking Sites

Social Bookmarking Sites are a great source of traffic for any Website. In the recent times, Social Bookmarking Sites have gained significant attraction from the web users. Online Marketers have found this platform as a tool for promoting their website which is also known as “Viral Marketing”. Bookmarking your Website in leading Social sites would aid in faster indexing of your web pages by Search Engines, gaining trust from leading Search Engines and also help to establish a new website. But you should remember that unless your site is useful to someone, it may not be effective.

Relevant Backlinks

Building backlinks to your website should be the first step towards receiving traffic. This process should be done in a slow and steady phase. Although some Webmasters buy links from relevant sites and web directories for money from other sites, it is not advisable to do so as Search Engines have a strong aversion to this process. In contrary, Search Engines prefer natural link building. You can gain natural links if your site contains useful information. A Webmaster of some other site providing a hyperlink to your website without your request or intervention may be termed as “Natural Link”. Many may question “What if a bad site links to me?” Well, that’s a good question! We all understand that it is out of our hands if a bad site links to our website (so do the Search Engines!). Although a linkback from a quality site would benefit your website, a linkback from a bad site may be discounted. Most often, it may not hurt your website’s ranking.

Frequent Updates

Most of the Search Engines love websites that often update their content rather than sites which serve the same content for ages. It is advisable to update your site’s content on a regular basis. When we talk about content, it needs to be unique and natural (human readable format). Some webmasters always target the Search Engines and fill up their content with specific keywords. If the keyword usage is too high, Search Engines may consider your site as a spam site.

Organic Traffic

As traffic from Search Engines is highly targetable it is called as Organic Traffic. For instance: a web user searches for “webmaster book” in a Search Engine. The Search Engine displays results in which your site is also listed. Assuming that your site sells Books related to Webmasters, it is a targeted traffic
for your site as the visitor’s intention is to buy a Webmaster Book. For receiving organic traffic from Search Engines, you need to optimize your site to Search Engines. Some optimization techniques include but not limited to the following:

a) Unique content with limited usage of Keywords.
b) Usage of relevant page title, meta description and h1/ h2 tags.
c) Quality Backlinks and relevant anchor text in hyperlinks
d) Limited number of outbound links to sites specific to your site’s niche
e) Updating your site’s content on a regular basis.
