Generate Quality Links
Link building is the process by which other webmasters link their website to yours and as such it is an important aspect of search engine optimisation. Anybody with a new website needs to put the necessary time and effort into building quality links with other sites, especially if they want a top ranking site. The number of links to your site isn’t as important to a search engine as the quality of the links which means that, wherever possible, you should try to encourage well ranked websites to link to yours. But how do you get the top, established websites to notice you enough to want to link?
Offer Quality Content
If you can produce a website that offers interesting and informative content on a specific theme then some of the top ranking sites will naturally want to create a link to the pages of your site with that content. So for example, if you produce a comprehensive website that focuses on the process of writing a novel and subsequently getting it published then providing the content is accurate and highly informative, a number of the better known publishers and self-publishers may create a link to your site. Each of the websites that create a link will have a page rank – a measure of their link popularity on a scale of zero to ten – and the more links you can encourage from sites with page ranks of nine and ten, the better your page rank will become and the more traffic to your site.
Submit Articles to Article Directories and Syndication Websites
By writing top quality articles on your chosen theme and submitting them to well known directories and syndication websites, you can allow other webmasters to use your articles on their sites providing they include a link to your website. This is a great way of getting quality links to your site however the articles you submit have to be of the highest quality to be noticed by the top ranking sites. If you write numerous articles and submit them to a variety of directories then you will need to vary the links so that traffic is directed to a number of different anchor texts on your website. By doing this there will be little chance of the search engines being overloaded by the same section of text and discounting it from the search results.
Approach the top ranked websites and offer reciprocal linking
If after submitting your articles and creating an information-packed website you still don’t seem to be creating quality links then you can always approach the top ranked sites personally. Ask if they will consider linking to your website and you will do the same for them. Include a link in an email that will take them to the most applicable section or page of your site so that if they do take the time to follow the link they will see exactly what your site is about and how a link to it could benefit them.
